Greece Beckons For Tourist

With all the clout about Greece economic crisis, I will like to remind my readers that the country is one of the best destinations on the Eastern Mediterranean. Every country has got an economic crisis and Greece is not an exception. This should not dampen our perceptions to experience and enjoy one of the best and acclaimed tourism destination in the world.

In my erstwhile days to learn about Eastern Mediterranean destinations , one of my quest was to spend my weekends in Greece mostly in Thessaloniki.

I really visit Athens because of it is overcrowded with tourist most especially from Finland and the then Western Germany. Nevertheless, there are many attraction in the country's capital.  The awesome New Acropolis Museum reminds us of the history of the country. Mount Lycabettus can be seen from anywhere in Athens. Fortunately, I have not been privileged to visit the mountain and it neighbouring surroundings. The National Archaeology Museum with its collection of art works dating back to the days of the Neolithic. I remember my Professor of Archaeology at the University of Sofia, Bulgaria always gloat about this historical phenomenon with its small vases, working tools and other smaller artefacts dating back to the 7th millennium.

The remarkable Temple of Olympian Zeus is not to be missed while in Athens. I understand it was built in 515 BC. I am still struggling with the history behind this awesome pillars but the visit was worth it.

There are other fantastic attractions worthy of visit in Athens, but my most special destination is Thessaloniki with her serene and quiet environment. This second city of Greece boast of the Byzantine with their monuments and the impressive Byzantine Wall. Seriously, most of everything is Byzantine culture. The Thessaloniki University is my restful place during the summer time. I am missing it already.

Never mind the economic crisis. The Greeks are hospitable and friendly people, hard-working too and full of fun. They go extra mile to have tourist enjoy their holidays in their country. We can help the Greek out of the crisis by visiting the country across all seasonality, boosting their tourism visit and spend. Athens and Thessaloniki are not the only tourism catering cities. Take a look at the map of Greece and you will behold brilliant exotic destinations in the country. All types of niche tourism products abound, adventure, sun and sea, education and culture, honeymoon, wedding, health, and a host of others. Its also not too expensive, ask your travel agents.

Please make your holiday destination this season to be Greece.
