The Ever Zealous Boniface.....

The Ambitious Boniface

Believe me when I say, I Boniface want to be empowered to do many things in this life. He was a concerned individual who approached me with a story of his life. Looking at his background, he indeed has come a long way with many challenges. Unperturbed, those challenges are what made him to seek empowerment, irrespective of his background.

So, what is this about? You may ask. It’s about analysing ambitions to rise above the water, having come from a working family background. Boniface really wanted to be an academic after graduating from university. He found that his pursuance of academic excellence is hindered by his disability point of view. The argument he has received in this contemporary professional world was that it is baseless to say that disability hinders your progress in the era of equality and diversity. Many might vehemently go against this grain of thought and say we live in an equal opportunity world now. Not so equal…… But let be realistic, in the ’70s and ’80s, no employer will take on someone who cannot hear, walk or talk properly (communication issues). There are many laws that ruled against this type of discrimination or stereotyping now. But how many people have come forward to complain about this during that time? Boniface even mentions that he read somewhere about companies that practice “Investment in People”. He does not believe in it. Shame!!!!

We are now living in the 21st century. Boniface confesses that the discrimination is still there. He has and is experiencing it. How?

Now I am very concerned about Boniface. Yes, how? Boniface reiterated that he is a qualified professional with an excellent educational background. He has since 2005, trying to secure a full-time career but find himself very highly marginalised. He claimed that whenever he secured and attend an interview session, the end result has always been “sorry........”. He lamented and wondered how many disabled people are going through this situation but are not expressing their grief. This is not an argument about who and where you are from; this is about disabled people contributing to the economic development of their country of origin...
But Boniface never gave up. He fights on; gain more experience and dedicate himself to his area of subject speciality and professionalism acquiring more skills. Boniface said he will be back to inform the author of his progress in securing a job. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for him...
If you are having a situation like this as in the case of Boniface, please comments tell us your story.....
